Therapeutic Support Staff (Full-Time, Part-Time, Overnight)

Salary: $16-$18/HR

Essential Job Functions:

•Assists individuals with daily activities, personal care, behavioral health needs, physical health, overall wellness, and leisure activities in a direct care capacity.

•Orients new Center guests/individuals to the home, program policies, rules and activities.

•Establishes rapport with guests with intellectual disabilities and challenging behaviors, while maintaining respect for each consumer’s dignity, individuality and right to confidentiality.

•Maintains professional boundaries with guests and follows ethical and licensing guidelines.

•Monitors individuals/guests for any mental health or behavioral symptoms and provides crisis prevention, intervention and de-escalation supports in accordance with the START model and the individual’s crisis prevention plan.

•Participates in development and implementation of individuals’ cross system crisis prevention plan.

•Plans, structures and prompts social and leisure time activities, including activities that build skills self-regulation, stress management, communication, adaptive living and daily living.

•Serves as a positive representative for agency with other professionals, families and the community.

•Maintains timely documentation, progress notes, and other data, including incident and accident reports.

•Responds to individual safety needs, including reporting significant changes in behavior and health.

•Communicates with other staff and supervisor on progress, needs, concerns and changes.

•Performs housekeeping duties as assigned, including meal preparation in accordance with individual dietary needs and preferences.

•Adheres to program standards and policies as well as local, state and federal regulations

•Assists with discharge planning.

•Other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibility:

There are no supervisory responsibilities to this position


Non-Essential Job Functions:

· Attend regular group or individual supervision as required;

· Attend staff meeting and trainings as required;

· Participate in ongoing Quality Improvement activities.


Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree (human services field preferred) from an accredited institution

Recent College Graduates interested in pursuing Graduate Level Programs in Social Work/Psychology/OT/PT or Nursing encouraged to apply

Direct support experience with both developmental disabilities and mental health populations preferred

Experience with crisis prevention and intervention services preferred

Maintain valid license and insurance for personal vehicles utilized for work

*Please note this position requires Weekend availability. The salary for this position is: Between $14-$16 an hour depending on education and experience.

Complete within specified time period the trainings as required by agency and service model


Equipment Used:

· Standard office equipment: computer, fax, phone. Use of personal transportation may be required.

· Standard home equipment: stove, oven, microwave, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and vacuum.



Essential Physical Requirements:

· Must physically be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, bend, and assist individuals with mobility needs.

· Must be able to hear within normal ranges

· Must be able to physically engage in recreational activities (basketball, walking, tennis, etc.) with individuals on a level and for a length of time that is therapeutic for the individual.

· Must be able to walk in order to articulate crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation supports.

· Must be able to see with or without accommodation to observe individuals

· Must be able to operate a standard automatic passenger van.



Services are provided primarily in the Resource Center and the community.

Persons holding this title may provide or provide components of the following service:

· START Center Services

· Innovations Waiver Services

· Community Respite, Personal Care

· State funded residential services

· Personal Assistance


Pay is dependent upon accumulated years of experience post Bachelor’s Degree FT MH/DD/SA experience and Para Professional or Associate Professional or Qualified Professional Status
