Group Home Manager I/DD

  • Maintains a home-like environment and participates daily in the direct services of the group home.
  • Serves as primary 1st shift staff, scheduling direct support professionals as medically indicated by residents who may be in the home at any given time.
  • Serves as primary Qualified Professional of the home including all responsibilities appropriate to that role, including but not limited to facilitating ISP meetings and completion of ISP if clinical home, supervision, client specific training of staff, disciplinary actions, interviewing and hiring in coordination with Program Manager and Human Resources and assurance of satisfactory completion of required documentation.
  • Maintains confidential records on all individuals and families, which include individual goal planning, progress toward goals, medical information, and assessments of resident adjustment (HRST).
  • Supervises the planning, purchasing, preparation, and serving of meals and snacks- with emphasis of ensuring direct support professionals are including residents to highest degree possible and per ISP.
  • Assists individuals with handling money, making and keeping appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.) as needed. As often as possible, this role serves as the primary staff to participate in medical appointments, assisting in communicating resident’s needs to professionals and bringing information back to all other residential staff to ensure all changes and orders from medical professionals are implemented.
  • Helps to provide opportunities for individuals to participate in goals as indicated in ISP, including scheduling and transportation to and from places of employment, personal appointments, and for recreational and other events.
  • Encourages residents to do things independently, make their own decisions, interact with others, and participate in community activities.
  • Ensures direct support professionals are actively engaged with residents during all activities as appropriate, supporting individuals in learning and being as independent as appropriate in home.
  • Encourages appropriate family involvement.
  • Maintains awareness of successes, problems, and general attitudes of the individuals, their employers, and the community and develops/implements goals to assist in improvement as needed in these areas.
  • Assists with ensuring that prescriptions are filled and with dispensation of medication, as needed. This will be done in coordination and collaboration with agency RNs under Health and Wellness program.
  • Ensures adequate staff coverage through scheduling consistently and filling in when needed.
  • Ensures all training is provided and coordinates training opportunities with HR and Program Manager.


  • Interviews, hires and supervises all direct support positions in collaboration with HR and Program Manager.
  • Submits overtime requests to Program Manager and resolves scheduling problems while staying within budgetary parameters.
  • Completes staff evaluations.
  • Operates program within approved budget.
  • Participates in budget development for cost centers in collaboration with Program Manager.
  • Accurately maintains petty cash account.
  • Maintains an up-to-date inventory of house supplies and materials.
  • Completes HUD admission and discharge paperwork, authorization requests and other activities related to ongoing access to services for residents.
  • Personal care and other duties when filling in for direct support staff.
  • All other duties as required by supervisor to meet the needs of the residents and the program.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and demonstration of respect towards others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the discipline of the employee’s profession, the Group Home Manager needs the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Must be a Team Player.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors, group home residents, direct care staff, families, community agencies and groups, and a variety of service disciplines.
  • Ability to establish appropriate professional boundaries and relationships with staff and individuals supported consistent with professional practice and professional ethics.
  • Ability to work cooperatively, creatively and productively as a member of a team.
  • Skills in computer applications necessary to perform the duties of this position.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Degree from an USDOE or CHEA accredited, four-year college or university in the human services field with qualifications to be credentialed as a QP in I/DD; and two (2) years’ administrative/supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage diverse duties and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to understand budgets and financial reports.
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have a valid, state appropriate driver’s license and ability to be insured by Easter Seals UCP’s insurance carrier is required.

 Preferred: A degree from an accredited, four-year college or university in the human services field with qualifications to be credentialed as a QP in I/DD; additional two (2) years’ experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities; two (2) years’ administrative/supervisory experience specifically in residential services.
