The Culinary Assistant will aid the instructor in setting up and cleaning the site for all culinary classes as well as assist with instruction. Course may be center-based or delivered in the community. The number of classes per week may vary. The Culinary Assistant is expected to be present for all classes including setup/breakdown time.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with class preparation by setting up workstations, organizing materials & ingredients, greeting students upon arrival or otherwise directed by instructor.
- Assist students in accessing recipe instruction materials (may involve use of technology, pictures schedules, etc)
- Assist students needing additional supports completing a task (working a can opener, leveling a cup of flour, etc.)
- Look for opportunities to improve student experience by implementing efficiency measures such as clearing the workspace, washing dishes, etc.
- Monitoring the time & communicating to instructor for proper pacing of activities
- Assist with documentation and student satisfaction through identifying signs of difficulty or confusions and relaying it to the instructor
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma required.
- Basic understanding of culinary concepts, techniques and vocabulary
- Solid understanding and demonstration of kitchen hygiene and safety
- Organized, ability to manage multiple duties and priorities
- Able to accommodate a schedule with varying hours, which may include weekends, early mornings and evenings.
- A valid driver’s license, good driving record and insurability. Must have reliable transportation that will allow movement throughout the program delivery area.
Equipment Used:
- Standard kitchen & home equipment such as: stove/oven, blender, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, microwave, washer/dryer, sink, dishwasher, etc.
Environment:
- Classes may be within other community partner sites and thus requires flexibility, deference and patience for individuals and staff operating in nearby suites, shared spaces, bathrooms and parking lot.
